This vintage Jacrim Keystone pond boat, recently restored, is a very much in demand collectable that will appreciate in value and desire in the coming years.
This particular Keystone was acquired by a collector in New York. He purchased it at an estate sale back in the 1980's. When we received it, we determined that it needed a complete restoration. The sails are original and we did repaint this keystone with it's original colors of mint green and oak stain. All of the hardware is original. The rigging is newly applied.
This vintage antique measures: 26"L x 5"W x 41"H. ( In it's stand).
We added a new varnished stand in oak and also added some decorative accents which truly compliment the model.
Here is it's history:
This colorful sailboat was made in the late 1930s by the Keystone Company of Boston after Chester Rimmer merged his Jacrim Company. The hull shape is the same as the earlier Jacrim boats, but made of solid pine rather than redwood. The printed deck design and logo on the sail (K and Star) became a signature of Keystone sailboats. When the Keystone Company took over the making of the Jacrim designed boats, the effects of mass production produced a less refined pond boat. The boats no longer had a hollow hull and were defined with a printed deck detail and the Keystone name. This boat was made after 1930 and has been restored with the original bright colors and stenciled vinyl sails. The hull still has the rounded shape of the Jacrim boats.
The Seaworthy/Jacrim boats were made by Chester Rimmer, a naval architect graduate of MIT in 1921. He formed the Jacrim Hollow Boat Company in the 1920s with the partnership of Arthur Jackson. They merged their boat making company with the Keystone Company of Boston, MA in the 1938. The Seaworthy/Jacrim logo was discontinued, and Keystone began making boats under the Keystone name.
These handsome pond boats have the graceful lines of the 1930s America's Cup racers. They were manufactured in Boston and sold by various toy companies and catalog sales companies. These boats make great display pieces. Made in the USA.
